I see some work I need to do around the eye & nose area as well as deepen some crevices and pick off crumbles. But this Smilodon figurine is closer to being molded than I remembered.

Wardian Case I built for my baby orchids

I freaking LOVE Wardian cases! Have a hack job one on my 5.5 to stop the cat from eating the pothos growing out the top and plan to redo it. Stuff like this is definitely inspiration. My microclimate doesn’t really need them, but they do make excellent plant jails if you have salad freaks.

HAH I FINISHED IT. Will have to get Real Pictures outside when the sun returns. I learned I need to use more strongly textured glass at that scale but overall this has been my smoothest sailing stained glass yet. Straight edges help a lot.

Finally safe at last from a week in the Blue Ridge mountains! The land must not be too angry with me for leaving as I found this gorgeous raccoon skull and skeleton poking out of the leaves under Six Trunks.

(A vintage Paleo Panthera print circa 2016. Kind of want to either print it again or redesign it. )

How do artists build an art community in cities that no longer have the perfect marriage of cheap large spaces that also no one wants? Real question. Art districts should be in existence in any city & their art community super visible. The whole community.

You should not have to magically have been in the right place at the right time for such things to exist since it’s widely agreed such places are highly valuable to the cities they’re in.

I absolutely LOOOOVE your bird rain god costume, and as someone who’d love to make a full bird suit for my own personal god, it filled me with such inspiration!!! I’d love if you went into a little detail (doesn’t have to be a lot, but if you could spare the time i’d really appreciate it) on making it! You don’t have to of course tho. Maybe just some info about the materials and techniques you used to make it. I don’t know very much at all about physical crafts, so any advice would really help!

Also, if it would be too difficult to dive into the details of making the rain god suit, if you could show pictures of any other costumes (pieces or full ones), I’d appreciate that instead!

The mask itself is made off of one of my own patterns and is done in EVA foam (like cosplayers use) with acrylic paint over it. Plus some fabric for the hood/to cover the neck. You can find those here: https://www.paleopanthera.com/masks

The wings are a modified version of one of Bazteki’s patterns; they’re originally the wings that belong to the cardburd project. I made mine from a combination of flag nylon, fiberglass rods, and paint. I believe the cardburd project is free but I’m sure Bazteki would appreciate if you tossed a tip their way. :) You can find the cardburd project here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1D6cfO46HajsM1a76vGq9vmQ5vPHE3Uo8YOdwZ1DxzPc/edit

The tail is just a 2D flag fabric cutout supported by spare eva foam and fiberglass rods. It has two belt loops on it. The rest of the costume is just whatever you feel like wearing; I’m just in a black shirt, black jeans, and boots there.

I have one piece of glass I’m gonna reshape (the one that’s sticking up) but I’m overall pleased. I do think I’m going to try a different tactic of pattern transfer and see if I can get higher precision out of it.

This was the last full costume I ever made (at the last con I ever attended pre pandemic) and I’m still damn proud of him. Party on Ixataca.

I still have occasional fantasies about building costumes & selling them off but it’s always so far down my to-do lists.

This is so fucking meaningful to hear <3 It IS hard to share online…just this morning I got an email about an Aliexpress vendor stealing my work. AI is scraping things everywhere. Bots auto-steal work without another human even being involved. There’s a sizeable contingent of society trying to dispose of artists as unneeded things. Clients are even suspicious at times & looking for proof than artist is real.

I’m still here. I couldn’t be here without you and many artists like you. So I’ll keep sharing even it ends up with 20 layers of carefully drafted watermarks lol.

Continuing to refine faking pen. I like this character a lot; it does not speak itself but the snakes do. It’s unclear if they’re one mind or several. Done in Clip Studio Paint.
